Disability Evaluation Q & A

What is disability evaluation?

Disability evaluation is the physical exam required by the Social Security Administration (SSA) in order to receive disability benefits. Dr. Howard is an experienced physician who provides the necessary evaluation, supporting documentation, and paperwork needed by the SSA so you can get the financial and/or medical help you need for your disability.

Her disability evaluation may also allow you to get special accommodations at your job so you can continue to work.

Am I a good candidate for a disability evaluation?

If you have a disability that impairs your ability to work or provide for yourself, then you may want to contact Oasys Preventive Health Services for a consultation. The SSA has a list of conditions and physical limitations that qualify for disability benefits. Dr. Howard is well aware of the criteria and determines if you would benefit from a disability evaluation when you come in for a consultation.

Some of the conditions and limitations that may qualify you for disability benefits include:

  • Vision or hearing impairments
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Liver dysfunction
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Chronic infections
  • Mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Endocrine disorders
  • Cancer
  • Musculoskeletal impairment

Dr. Howard is a general practitioner who has many years of experience managing chronic illness and understands how the disease affects everyone differently. She uses her clinical judgment to determine the best course of action for you when you come in for care.

What happens during a disability evaluation?

Dr. Howard conducts a comprehensive examination when you come in for a disability evaluation. Your exam may include:

  • Review of your medical history and medication use
  • Discussion of your symptoms and disability
  • Physical exam
  • Diagnostic testing, such as blood work and urinalysis

She also assesses the severity of your disability and how it affects your day-to-day activities. She then assesses your disability and provides recommendations to the SSA. Your disability may be temporary or chronic.

Dr. Howard may also provide you with other resources for additional benefits. She’s a primary care physician who offers you ongoing management of your health and disability to help you live your best, healthiest life.
